On its own it has a very satisfying deep flavour, with hints of barley, rye, and a champagne quality in the taste. This kind of flavour is good for an entry level scotch drink, and won’t be far from the real stuff, but this is not real scotch, it is a real bottle of real Canadian whisky ( more robust than most Canadian Whisky available, and more flavourful) and as such, it is best served at 45% abv, and is best enjoyed in the evening, preferably with a fruity dessert or two….
On the rocks, this is a harsh experience – there are no finesse in this drink…… just sand in dunes on a beach in Jamaica. This is a potentially good whisky, and the fact that it is not bottled at the more common 40% abv is a gift.There are more flavours run into this stronger version, and it promises to be a good scotch to be enjoyed in the future.
Overall Drinkability: 8/10 Crown Royal Black is a beautiful whisky, it has the kind of refined taste that is perfect for after a magnificent meal. And it makes a perfect aperitif, as well as a good whisky to enjoy with a cigar, a cigar, and a cigar. A master class in whisky making indeed. So it is easy to drink, and it is a good whisky. Drinking an entire bottle doesn’t seem to make much of a difference – cause the high end Canadian whisky is good on its own. If you love your whiskies, then this is the one to pick up.
