An excellent sweet tea infused vodka, made at the Firefly distillery on Wadmalaw Island in South Carolina and perfect for long drinks. Distilled four times, the spirit is infused with tea grown just five miles from the distillery and then blended with sugar cane from Louisiana.

I’m drinking Firefly Vodka right now. It is an extremely drinkable vodka, so delicious it does not need to be mixed. In fact, my perfect cocktail is 2 oz Firefly infused with fresh mint, lime, agave nectar. So good! The tea infusion makes it sort of like the sweet tea we’d drink in the South. If you are looking for a great infused vodka to drink straight, definitely consider Firefly.

The flavor of Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka is immediately recognizable as tea. There are competing flavors, not bitter or cloying. The sweetness is balanced by an underlying earthiness, which is reinforced further with the touch of mint which enhances. This is a well-made spirit, not one of those that taste like Bordeaux – they may be insane, but at least they can blissfully argue that it is a natural outcome of slow oxidation, which is what takes place when the spirit is ‘ruined’. No defects exist in Firefly’s sweet tea vodka; it is perfect.

Right away, at first smell, you know you are in tea vodka territory. There is definitely a floral note and a hint of citrus, but not overpowering, both of these things subtle. The tea flavor is very strong, but in a natural way not like some vodkas where it is obviously artificial, not particularly Japanese. There are no bitter, or dirty, or waxy flavors in it, just the tea. Even on top, there is no anise or raisin or other sweetness. Overall, the sweet tea vodka isn’t over-arching. It doesn’t wear one thing on its sleeve: it’s complex but not distorted. It seems to wear more on the middle of the tongue, which is wise because you don’t want anything to overpower. This is a spirit for a connoisseur, who will certainly enjoy rummaging through the notes.

Overall

Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka

Well, well. This is a spirit is it not. It is an artisanal, crafted, original product. And I’m drinking it as I write this. I finished two bottles on Valentine, and now I’m about to mix up another vodka mojito with mint, lime, agave.

There is no question in my mind. It is wonderfully absolutely perfect. 10 out of 10.
