A very special golden rum from one of Central America’s most celebrated producers, Flor de Cana from Nicaragua. These rums keep getting better and better. Aromas of red fruit, honey and toasted nut are joined on the palate by oak, vanilla and baked apples.

Flor De Cana Rum Review:

The nose: In the glass the rum starts with big aromas of baked apple and toasted nuttiness that are brought in the glass by way of oak, sweet molasses and some orange. The nose in the glass warms up with time and wonderful tropical fruit notes of pineapple and mango as well as a little caramel…the nose is dense, deep and rich.

The tongue: Big in the mouth, warm in the mouth, smooth…at first I got a strong vanilla oak flavor then lighter hints of red fruit. A little cinnamon and nuttiness right out of the gate, and a honey, caramel, toasted nuttiness and oak finish with only a little dry oak for balance.

The finish: Rich, nutty and smooth with touch of cinnamon, caramel and some orange.

Rich, nutty and smooth with touch of cinnamon, caramel and some orange. The Consensus: True to the classic Flor de Cana profile these rum are big in the mouth, warm hearted in the belly and smooth across the palate. The nose is expansive and the mouth full of seductive spice, full to the angles and inviting. Great tasting rums!

This rum is a full bodied, rich rums that contains that Central American tropics of anise, vanilla, caramel, honeyed oak woods, baked fruit and of all things–espresso beans! Now there is almost no food pairing with espresso and rum that can really translate itself right or get you any closer to that espresso taste than Flor de Cana does. Now, there is no espresso here, but I think you can understand that espresso is a trend in flavored rums as a way to get into flavoring rums, mixing coffee and other flavors to make attractive looking rums, and you can also understand that coffee has no place here, but you are immediately pushed into the Flor de Cana cigar flavors and the Flor de Cana is a rum for cigars–which complements that theme wonderfully. However, let’s look at the Closer’s score within the body and the complexity of Flor De Cana’s flavor.

Flor De Cana Rum Review:

The Body: The body in this rum starts with a warming sweetness and then some spice emerges with time. The spice and sweetness is great and the body is full and smooth. The finish is bright and clean.

The Taste:

There is a lot of spice and sweetness in this Rum, especially in the taste. Flor de Cana is a very smooth and full on the tongue.

The Breath: Flor de Cana takes on that spicy and warm sweetness as well as some wood notes that are very interesting. Then the finish goes from a bright clean finish to a slightly dry feeling on the back of the tongue and palate which is very natural for this rum.

Flor de Cana takes on that spicy and warm sweetness as well as some wood notes that are very interesting.

Flor De Cana Rum Review:

The Aftertaste: The aftertaste in this rum is very warm and moist on the palette but not overbearing. A nice rums aftertaste.

Flor De Cana Rum Review:

The Score: Flor de Cana is another trophy rum and a big night out rum! Drink this rum any night you want to party. It is bold, rich and warm with a dose of sweet spice for on top!

Flor De Cana Rum Review:

The Nose:

Flor de Cana starts with a golden hue and the aroma is sweet and pleasant…hints of vanilla and sweet vanilla with some honey and light oak.

The Palate:

The spicy, rich and full mouth feel of this rum is very nice. This is one of those rums you get all of the flavor without a lot of surprises.

The Finish:

The finish is dry and more like golden rum one full of sweet spice, vanilla, woody aromas with some licorice and cinnamon notes ware after. The time goes on and the finish becomes slightly more warming and is overall warming, soft and nice.

The Taste:

Other than tasting like a true Flor de Cana rum Flor de Cana is a little spicy and all around the classic Flor de Cana experience.Flor de Cana is a warm rich full-bodied rum with hints of vanilla, light honey and baked apple and some light oak notes. Flor de Cana has an overall slightly dry, fruity finish that is warm and smooth. Flor de Cana is a rum to drink anytime you want a solid rum! I think these rums are big in the mouth, warm in the belly and mostly smooth across the palate. The nose profile of Flor de Cana is rich with a solid woody profile and amazing vanilla, caramel and honey notes. The finish of the Flor de Cana is more subtle than some rums and after taste is dry, warm and smooth. Flor de Cana may not be your drink of the night, but a world class rum Flor de Cana is the nicest available Flor de Cana rum and should be enjoyed!
