Dewar’s Scotch is one of the oldest brands in the Scotch whisky spectrum. It is commonly referred to as “The First Scotch” as it was the first blended Scotch whiskies to be made. Made by the Dewar family, it has the distinction as the first whisky to be called “Dewar’s.”

Clynelish Distillery
This distillery is on the beautiful dry Island of Orkney. Previously, a farm that produced cheese and malt barley, the distillery opened in 1887 and was the 1st to be owned by the Speyburn Group. The distillery was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1999 and is now the largest distillery in the European Union. The Dewar’s Scotch whisky is now the most well known product produced here, but the cruorpunch and malted barley used to produce small malt whisky. This is still used in producing the Dewar’s blend.

Is it better than any other Scotch whisky? The general consensus is that this is the best blended Scotch whisky that’s currently on the market.
Pleasant, with loads of fruit and spice. The malt is remarkably soft and pleasurable, with some mighty, mineral aromas coming through from the Islay firing range. Geranium and mint also make an appearance, but it’s the dry, fruity, nuts-and-fruit character that marks this one as a remarkably good blended. A very pleasant, if unmemorable Scotch.

Dewars Scotch Whisky
The taste is bland, without any real copper notes or hints of smoke. The taste is actually very similar to the Dewar’s White Label variety, with the slight hint of Islay peat. It’s made clear that it’s not the genuine deal, but it’s still a very nice drink. The sweetness of the drink is very nice and works well with ice or without. Whisky connoisseurs may be put off by this, but the drink is made of grain whisky which is produced all the time, and there is a reason why Dewars is so popular and so famous. It’s a great drink, and is the ideal thing for the frazzled workaholic.
The aroma is quite sophisticated and it lacks the typical earthy, peaty and smoky flavours. In fact, it tastes more like the taste of the water than anything else.
The taste is actually quite nice, if not absolutely wonderful. It’s very self-serving and I think this is a good way to introduce people to alcohol. Even if these drinks are not particularly enjoyable, they always make for great conversation. However, unfortunately, it lacks the fruity hints that the Dewars White Label or the Double Black Label can deliver. A nice, healthy alternative to the usual alcoholic beverage, but again, I prefer the brand name or the genuine Dewars.
