I first tried an Absinthe Verte at a very nice French Restaurant in Paris. The hostess knew what it was and brought it to the table by special request.
I loved the experience, as I’d read that it was a hallucinogenic drink and, after that first time, I needed to know more.
Grande Absente Original is unique in that it is made up of a large number of different herbs. You can smell the scent of individual herbs as they are brought to the table to steep in a fountain. The strong smell reminds you of time spent in an herb shop.
The dry tasting herbs come together perfectly as the liquid still retains the bouquet of fragrant greens. If you look at the colour, it’s like looking at a field of freshly picked French herbs at the height of the season.
Is This the Most Potent Absinthe?
It’s the strongest I’ve had, not too far off the strongest ever to be banned.
Like a fine wine, this elixir is meant to be enjoyed slowly. Over time, as you approach the end of the bottle, the strength appears to increase.
How Does Grande Absente Absinthe Originaire Taste?
There are clear flavours of anise and fennel that are well balanced with the aniseed. As we get nearer to the bottom of the bottle, the licorice flavour comes through more clearly.
There is a subtle hint of wormwood, completing a fragrant bouquet that makes you want to enjoy this award-winning drink even more.
What Is Grande Absente Absinthe Original Made Of?
After the herbs are gathered from the valley behind the distillery the herbs are then brought to the farmhouse where they are dried over open air fires.
If you see the distillery, you know it’s a farm.
Several herbs are placed in large barrels and water added a little at a time. This step is crucial as the water must not fall from the sky and create muddy conditions.
The water is then added one drop at a time.
What Are the Botanicals Used in Grande Absente Absinthe Originaire?
It’s a floral bouquet with a powerful licorice taste. This is truly an artisanal Absinthe. (https://primer.com.au/)
