A brilliant dark rum for mixing, produced in Bermuda since 1806. The name comes from the black wax originally used to seal the bottles. Rich and well balanced this has enticing notes of butterscotch, vanilla and caramel. The signature serve is with ginger beer in a Dark ‘n’ Stormy.

Gosling Rum Review:

A real hit here. This is a rum we enjoy drinking straight. The mild molasses billow gently across the palate before being engulfed by rich wooden notes. These become more syrupy with the spices that take charge on the tongue. This really is a delicious rum and we look forward to many more each week.

A pleasant day in December.

The bottle is currently closed, so this is a Gosling Rum Review from the vaults:

Gosling Rum Review:

This is a nice change of pace for several reasons. The have tried several Goslings, and we have liked several, but this bottle is of excellent quality. It is a well balanced dram. Spice and butterscotch dominate, with a touch of caramel.

This is a great value bottle, like the last one I bought. The last one I bought was also a great value bottle. This Black Seal rum is definitely a great value, and worth more than the cost of the rum on its own!

A good rum and a good deal.

A fine rum for the money. First line of French is excellent, and the secondary line is a step up. Nice dark caramel and molasses flavor. It’s a nice change of pace from the Blanton’s.

Gosling Rum Review:

I enjoyed this on a hot day on vacation. This was a light rum that was subtle and balanced. It was sweet and well balance. It was nutty finishing out the sweetness and leaving you for a pleasant after taste. This rum is not too heavy and has a sweet after taste. It was a little bit tart and unique.

A really great value and one we enjoy drinking straight.

Gosling Rum Review:

Just amazing. It’s sweet and spicy on the nose and on the tongue. The spices that take charge on the tongue are nutmeg and cinnamon and really stand out while the molasses flavor is still present. This rum is a bit dark for our tastes but that is just an observation and not an objection. We love it!

A good rum for the money. This is your basic Gosling Black Seal that is not likely to give you headache. The spice takes focus on the tongue and there is a rich deep vanilla, butterscotch and caramel finish. Our final rum review of the week!

The rum is nicely balanced, mild. This seems to have some grenadine in it, but this only shows up on the tongue and in the glass. A bit sweet, but doesn’t sting the tongue afterwards. The presentation on this bottle is very nice. There is a gold band on the top of the bottle with an embossed drawing that looks like a monkey (Rums do come in monkey bottles…). The label has a label on the front and back.

A challenging drink-this is very good.

This is a great bottle of rum. On the inside of the package, the description says that Goslings are made of more sugar than molasses. I found this Rum to be sweeter than the average, but still very good. Years ago, I drank Goslings at the Cudahy Packing house in Chicago. This Rum is not as strong as their rum is today. Now, I recall that their rum was much better.

Gosling Rum Review:

A more balanced rum. This flavor is more rich and sweet with spices and butterscotch.

This is more of a sweet rum than the White Oak but does have a bite and is well crafted. A definite step up from the White Oak although they are both very good.

A fantastic pure rum. The nose has a light touch of tropical fruit and is dominated by the molasses. The rum is smooth and enjoyable and all the spices are super enjoyable.

Gosling Rum Review:

As usual a great Gosling Rum Review. I have always been a fan of Gosling’s and this one does not disappoint. I enjoy this very much. As always a good recommendation.

A really great value on the Gosling brand.

A spicy rum. This rum has a complex flavor that has a lot of layers to it. It starts off spicy with nutmeg and cinnamon and is then engulfed by sweet caramel and toffee. The finish is smooth and restrained and still manages to bring out the nutmeg and cinnamon. This is a surprisingly good rum for the price.

Lots of spices. This is a great rum for aftertaste. When you walk away from a bottle, you savor the finished flavor and that is what this is. Spicy and nutty, this is a rum for any budget.

Gosling Rum Review:

A great little risk. This is a light rum without the harsh molasses aftertaste of many that are darker. The spice and fruity notes on the pour are quite good. There are elements of dark caramel and toffee. This is a rum that is pleasant to drink straight or in a cocktail.
